2025 OSSS Summer Tour: Klamath Falls
September 12–14, 2025
Hosted by the Oregon Society of Soil Scientists
Base Location: OSU Klamath Basin Research & Extension Center
Join us for a weekend of field exploration, soil science, and community in the heart of the Klamath Basin!

Tour Overview
Friday, September 12 – Arrival & Welcome
Check-in: 4:30–9:30 PM
- Location: OSU Klamath Basin Research Station
- Dinner on your own
- Settle in, meet fellow attendees, and get ready for a weekend in the field!
Saturday, September 13 – JC Boyle Reservoir Field Day
- Start Time: 8:00 AM
- Breakfast provided before departure to field
- Field Tour Highlights:
- Landscape changes from dam removal
- Submerged sediments and buried ash layers
- Soil pit explorations and restoration soils
- Wetland restoration connections at optional Miller Island stop
- Lunch included
- Restrooms and carpooled transportation provided throughout the day
- Dinner provided back at camp by OSSS
Sunday, September 14 – Soil Pits & Wrap-Up
- Start Time: 7:45 AM
- Breakfast provided before departure to field
- Visit two soil pit sites with in-field discussions
- Lunch during the final stop
- Return to station by 12:40 PM
Suggested Departure
1:30 PM (Estimated arrival to Corvallis by 5:15 PM, Salem by 5:45 PM)
Transportation & Logistics
- Vans provided for field tour transport
- Restrooms available at most stops
- Meals included:
- Saturday: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
- Sunday: Breakfast and lunch
- Lodging
- Tent camping spots available at the OSU Klamath Basin Research & Extension Center
- Due to limited space, please bring a max 2-person tent per individual. Larger tents are appropriate if you plan to share your tent as a group with others!
- Parking spots for car camping available, but no RV hookups onsite
- Hotels can be booked nearby in Klamath Falls
