2026 OSSS Summer Tour: Central OR Coast
September 11–13, 2026

Join us for a weekend of field exploration, soil science, and community at the central Oregon coast!

Tour Overview
Friday, September 11 – Arrival & Welcome
Check-in: 4:30–9:30 PM
- Location: West Laverne Large Group Campground; 61217 Coquille-Fairview Rd, Coquille, OR 97423
- Dinner on your own
- We will informally meet at a local brewery if you would like to join (on your own dime, more info to come).
- Settle in, meet fellow attendees, and get ready for a weekend in the field!
Saturday, September 12 – South Slough
- Start Time: 8:00 AM
- Breakfast provided before departure to field
- Field Tour Highlights:
- Western Lily recovery project at Wasson Creek Restoration site
- Hydric soils
- Cultural community garden utilizing biochar (Southern OR Community College Ecological Program)
- Lunch included
- Restrooms and carpooled transportation provided throughout the day
- Dinner provided back at camp by OSSS
Sunday, September 14 – Cranberry Bog & Wrap-Up
- Start Time: 8:00 AM
- Breakfast provided before departure to field
- Pack up camping area prior to departure to field
- Cranberry bog field stop near Bandon
- Lunch included
Suggested Departure
1:00 PM (Estimated arrival to Corvallis by 4:30 PM, Salem by 5:00 PM)
Transportation & Logistics
- Vans provided for field tour transport
- Restrooms available at most stops
- Meals included:
- Saturday: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
- Sunday: Breakfast and lunch
- Lodging
- Tent camping spots available at the West Laverne Large Group Campground
- RV Hookup spots available
- Parking spots for car camping available
- Hotels can be booked in Coos Bay (~45 minutes from campground)
